Life in Moiry, France in World War One

This blog is a collection of stories of life in a small French village called Moiry in the early part of the 20th century. It is also an account of the history of the Americans who came to this village during "La Grande Guerre", the First World War, as told by my mother who grew up there and married an American soldier.

I have many stories and photos of those days which I will be sharing. I hope you enjoy them.

These stories and photographs are lovely and evocative--evocative because they make the past, and another place, real. But more, I found myself thinking about the present and the future--how we experience our community, how we know our neighbors, how we relate to the natural world, how we raise our children. I look forward to more, and to more of the spirit of Rebecca and Lucy, via this modern medium! I am reading Carolyn Heilbrun's Writing A Woman's Life right now, which says that women's lives, be the subject famous or not, have rarely been conveyed with accuracy or an "insider's" viewpoint. The charming stories in Rebecca's words, are the exception.
